Club News August 2008

WANTED - TRAP MACHINE MECHANIC:  Any individual who is mechanically inclined and interested in performing the necessary periodic maintenance and minor adjustments/repairs should contact Jerry Oglesby @ (309) 274-5413 or Kevin Wunder @ (309) 246-5505 for the pertinent details.

Club Work Day:  DO YOU NEED 2008 WORK HOURS?  Saturday, September 6, 8:30 AM, has been set for a club wide workday.  Projects include tree branch trimming, outdoor range (all ranges) repairs & cleanup, indoor range cleanup, general clubhouse cleanup, clubhouse perimeter cleanup, general grounds cleanup, etc.  PLEASE bring appropriate tools (tree branch trimmers, chain saws, brush trimmers, some open trailers for hauling brush), gloves, etc.  The more people we have the quicker the work can be accomplished.  Questions, contact Cliff Wilcox, (309) 579-2793, for the outdoor work and Bob Bjerke, (309) 692-1800, for the clubhouse work.

Annual FNRA Dinner:  The CSC is a sponsor of this event and a recipient of one of the annual grants this year.  Our grant was for 22 caliber pistols and related items for use with the new shooter bulls-eye training program.

The event is a fund raising event with the proceeds used to promote shooting, education, hunter safety, etc., throughout the state.

The Club has 8 free sponsor dinner tickets available to its members.  They will be given out at the August 12 monthly Board Meeting on a first asked first given basis.  Annual members will have the priority for receiving these tickets.  Then, if any tickets are left, other members will have the opportunity to obtain them.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:  Even though the US Supreme ruled in favor of our 2nd Amendments Rights to own/possess firearms, there are still a substantial number of ANTI-GUN bills pending in the Illinois General Assembly.  Please contact your respective representative, either in Springfield or thru his/her local office and POLITELY request that he/she vote against any and all pending ANTI-GUN legislation.  Additionally, politely request that he/she vote FOR the CONCEALED-CARRY LAW that is also pending.  The phone numbers are in your phone book.  They are also available thru the CSC, and websites.  Follow the prompts.

Inappropriate Targets:  The Club is still experiencing problems with individuals using inappropriate items as targets (picnic tables & large spools (they are supposed to be used as equipment benches), glass bottles, old propane bottles, support posts for target boards, golf balls from the golf driving range, etc.  These actions, by a few individuals, are creating potential hazards for the Club, other members, and are a direct violation of CSC Range Rules.

Membership sanctions will be imposed against identified violators!

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION (NMO):  An (**) in your middle initial area means you need to attend to obtain your 2008 card & gate key.  Check the enclosed calendar for dates & times.  ADVANCE RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED OR NO INSTRUCTOR WILL BE AT THE CLUB FOR THE CLASS.  To make your class attendance reservation or to ask any questions - Contact Charles Varnold at (309) 697-6766 or via e-mail at
