Approved High Power Rifle Match

 

Match Dates:

NRA approved matches will normally be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month starting in April and ending in September, except for April 5th.  A non-approved match will be held on the 3rd Saturday of October (10/18/2008) after which the year end award ceremonies and a cookout will be held.  Approved NRA match dates are:

 April 5,  May 17,  June 21,  July 19,  August 16,  September 20.

 

Location:

Chillicothe Sportsmen's Club, P.O. Box 13, Chillicothe, IL 61523.

Turn east on Yankee Ln. from route 29 about one mile north of Chillicothe. Follow gravel road east then south to the end. Club entrance will be on your left.

 

Registration:

There will be no pre-registration. All shooters who are present by relay closing times (specified below) will get the opportunity to participate in at least one relay. Registration for the first rely will start at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 a.m.. First relay will commence firing the match at 8:00 a.m.. Registration for the 2nd relay will close at 9:30 a.m.. The 2nd relay will commence firing upon completion of the 1st relay.

 

Prior to start of the first relay instructions for operation of the club rifles (M1 Garand & AR15) will be offered to interested shooters. All beginners who plan to shoot a club rifle are required to take this instructional class. New shooters will be required to observe the 1st relay to gain familiarity with the rifle range practices and safety procedures & can shoot the 2nd relay only.

Safety:

All competitors will be required to wear ear & eye protection. NO EXCEPTIONS. Ear & eye protection will be available at the range.

 

Rifle Requirements:

Any rifle meeting Rule 3.3 of NRA High Power Rifle Rule having metallic sights and a trigger pull of not less than three pounds will be permitted. For the M1, M14, Mini 14, AR15 and other semiautomatic rifles, the trigger pull will not be less than four and one-half pounds. The rifle must be capable of rapid fire loading through the use of an extra magazine or stripper clip. Limited number of club rifles (M1 Garand & AR15) are available for use by competitors.

 

Ammunition:

CMP club caliber .30 (30-06), .308 & .223 will be issued as available to any shooter who is firing the match to meet the CMP qualification requirements. Each relay will shoot through the entire course of fire.

 

Supervision:

Club officials / instructors will insure compliance with the requirements for qualification and will certify as to the correctness of the scores.

 

Scoring:

Competitors will be required to score other competitor's targets.

 

Target Changing:

Competitors will be required to hang their own targets or paste up the previous target if a target change is not required.

 

Awards:

Classifications will be by NRA System. CMP certificates of qualification and / or awards will be handed out in October to competitors who fire CMP qualifying scores between April & September. In order to qulify, a competitor mast fire a minimum of 3 qualifying scores within the designated class range. Class ranges are as follows: Marksman: 350 - 399, Sharpshooter: 400 - 449 & Expert: 450 - 500.

Juniors: $5.00        (2 relays = $7)

Adults: $12.00       (2 relays = $18)

 

None-Members:

Juniors: $5.00        (2 relays = $7)

Adults: $18.00       (2 relays = $30)

 

Special Notes:

No alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the range Prior or during the match.

SPECIAL MATCH:

CMP High Power Rifle match is hosting a John C. Garand match on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Chillicothe Sportsmen Club on Range 1 at 1:00 PM. Registration starts after the regular CMP High Power Rifle match around 12:00 PM.

Shooters may use any “as-issued” U. S. service rifle including the M1 Garand, M1903 Springfield, M1917 Enfield, M1941 Johnson or .30 Cal. M1 Carbine.  Rifles must have standard stocks and be equipped with military-type web or leather slings.  Rebarreling with barrels of “as-issued” dimensions is permitted, but “NM” parts or glass bedding is not permitted. Use of rifles chambered for NATO 7.62 (.308 Winchester) is not permitted.

COMPETITION OPEN TO: All interested shooters, regardless of experience, age or sex.  Shooters who have not previously shot in a competition are encouraged to practice the Garand Match course of fire. An experienced shooter will be available to assist any new shooters.

ENTRY FEES.  Individual entry fees are $15.00.

Targets.   The standard 100 yard SR-1 (short-range) high-power rifle target will be used.

COURSE OF FIRE.  40 rounds total, 10 sighting shots and 30 rounds for record, fired at the 100-yard line.

Stage 1, 10 Sighting shots  fired any position, slow fire, time limit 10 minutes.

Stage 2,  10 shots for record, standing position, slow fire, time limit 10 minutes.

Stage 3, 10 shots for record, standing to prone, rapid fire, time limit 70 seconds.

Stage 4, 10 shots for record, prone position, slow fire, time limit 10 minutes.

AMMUNITION.  Ammunition (30-06) will be available for $15 for 40 rounds. Competitors may use their own ammunition.

PRIZES. Prizes will be awarded.
