WE ARE ACCEPTING ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS FOR 2024.

Applying for an Annual Membership

To print an application, click here :

No new Annual Membership applications will be accepted after JUNE 1 of the current year (for a membership in the current year).

Applications received after June 1 will be held until the following year and reviewed by the Board at the January meeting.

There is a non-refundable application fee of $40.00 that must be sent in with the application.  You can mail your application to the following address or give it to us at one of the monthly Board Meetings:

                        Chillicothe Sportsmen’s Club

                        Attn:  Jenn Earleywine

                        P.O. Box 13

                        Chillicothe, IL  61523

All memberships run from January 1 to December 31 of each year.

There is NO pro-rating of the membership dues when joining the Club.

It will cost the same whether you join in January or if you join on May 31.  Membership terminates on December 31 of that year.

Applications are reviewed and accepted by the Board at the monthly meetings from January through June.  After being accepted, the applicant will be contacted to attend a New Member Orientation.  You will not receive your card and key until you attend the orientation and pay your annual dues of $100.00 and the land fund assessment of $25.00.  You can pay these fees when you attend the New Member Orientation or you can send them with your application, either way is acceptable.

If you were previously a member and let your membership lapse, you have to apply as a new member, including the application fee, to be accepted into membership again.  You will also owe work hours from the last year you were a member if you do not still have the card showing the work hours were completed or have turned in the card when you let your membership lapse.

Getting Your Work Hours

There are several ways to get work hours.  We have outdoor and indoor work parties at the beginning of each month (check the club calendar for date and time).  Most activities at the club also can use help.   You can see the activities listed on the club calendar.

The club calendar can be accessed on our web site by clicking the “Newsletter” button on the left side of your screen and then clicking the current month to see the newsletter with the calendar or click on future months to see the calendar.  If you spot something you’d like to help with, click on the “Club Officials” button on the left and go down through the list of activities directors to find the contact.  Talk with them and they can tell you if and how you can help.

Also, not all grounds work has to be done at the outdoor work party.  If your schedule does not permit coming out for the work parties, talk with the director of Grounds and see if there is work we need done that you can do on your own.  They will need to verify the work is complete before signing off on your work hours.

Renewing Your Membership

2024 Membership Renewal Process

We typically start our membership renewals at the annual meeting in November.  That part will not change this year.   We will collect membership renewals at the meeting and will hand out cards and keys.   Please pay by check.  If you insist on paying in cash, you will be responsible for having the correct change.  We will not be making change at the meeting.

We will still be taking membership renewals through the mail as we always have.  Do not send your old key to us through the mail - instead, drop it off in the green mailbox outside the Clubhouse after January 1, but don’t forget that you will still need it if you want to come out to the club before January 1.

Mail renewals to:

                        Chillicothe Sportsmen’s Club

                        Attn: Jenn Earleywine

                        P.O. Box 13

                        Chillicothe, IL  61523

As for in-person renewals at the clubhouse, these are going to be scarce this year.  I have not been attending board meetings in person and do not plan to for the remainder of this year and probably well into next year.  If you want to drop off a renewal at the meeting, you can do so and I will mail your card and key after the meeting.  Someone will drop them off to me after the meeting.  We will try to have someone available at the December Gun Show to renew memberships, but that will be contingent on getting volunteers to do so.

If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me through e-mail (chilli_membership@chillisportsmen.org) or by telephone at (309-224-9226).  The following table can help you with what you owe:

DO NOT MAIL YOUR KEY IN WITH YOUR MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL!

The Post Office will charge us for repair of the sorting machine if it is damaged by the key in a standard envelop.  That is why we have to mail your card and key in the padded envelopes and the Post Office hand stamps them for us instead of sending them through the machine.

Keys should be dropped off in the mail box at the end of the sidewalk in front of the club house when you are at the club sometime after January 1.

All memberships expire on December 31 of each year.  You have until February 1 of the following year to renew your membership.  If you do not renew your membership by February 1, you will have to apply as a new member, including the application fee, in order to get your membership reinstated.  You will also still owe money for work hours from the previous year if they were not completed.

Associate Life Membership Information

The club currently has openings for Associate Life Memberships.  Our bylaws allow for up to a maximum of 50 Associate Life Members and we are currently at only 20, so we can add up to 30 more.  Becoming an Associate Life Member is the first step toward becoming a Life Member.  Associate Life Members may be elected by the Board from the ranks of the Annual Members in the club if they have been an Annual Member for at least 2 years.

Becoming an Associate Life Member does require a commitment to the club.  Since the bylaws require that the officers and at least half of the Board members serving at any time must come from the Associate Life and Life Members, we are looking for people who are committed to supporting the operations of the club.  That is why the bylaws also specify that candidates for Associate Life Membership have demonstrated their desire to serve the club by involvement in the activities and work of the club.  We are looking for those who put in their time even beyond the required 10 work hours.  We are looking for those who want to help the club succeed.

There is also the financial commitment.  The cost to become an Associate Life Member is currently $1000.00 (ten years of dues up front).  Your dues paid for the current year in which you apply go toward that $1000.00, so that leaves a balance of $900.00 after your application is accepted by the Board.  You don’t have to pay it all at once.  A payment plan can be agreed to between the applicant and the officers and Board.  Once becoming an Associate Life Member, you no longer pay dues each year, but you are still obligated to pay the land fund assessment and you still have the requirement for a minimum of 10 work hours regardless of age.  The work hours should not be an issue if you are the type of person we are looking for.
